“I like TPMS in theory, but in practice Iâve dealt with enough faults that Iâm sour on them.”
I’ll add this to my poor vehicle design category. There are a decent amount of vehicles that you can adjust the mirror to eliminate blind spots. Unfortunately i don’t think this is so much the case with most new cars anymore. Small mirrors, high beltlines, and slivers for windows are creating stupid-large blind spots. It would be great to make vehicles with outward visibility as opposed to some systems to correct for the lack of it.
(1) KTM 450SXF. This is the best clutch in motocross. Thanks to its billet steel clutch basket (with the primary gear machined in as one solid piece), Belleville washer spring and flawless Brembo hydraulic actuation, no clutch can touch KTM on power transfer. The plates will last two to three times longer than any “Big Four” clutch (including the 2019 Kawasaki KX450 hydraulic clutch).
So now I’ve got a clutch pedal that feels very nice, and doesn’t leak poisonous fluid all over my shoes.
SlowMyke, it’s the blind leading the blind. I still remember my driving instructor telling me to adjust my mirrors until I can just see the car. Obviously not correct, but no one I knew knew differently at the time.
6. The XE boasts IMU-supported cornering ABS and lean-angle detecting traction control. ABS and TC are described in the same nomenclature as the power modes—Rain, Road, Sport, and Off-Road—instead of the usual numerical levels that we commonly see. Off-Road ABS allows for aggressive front braking in the dirt, letting you slide the rear as you’d like. The Off-Road TC is fascinating as it teaches riders to understand how the motor breaks traction, yet it doesn’t eliminate spin either—it merely subdues it. If you give it more gas mid-slide, it will let go a bit more, but never become unleashed. To hang it out, you’ll want to go into Off-Road Pro.
Recognizing differences goes both ways. If you want the safety systems, you can buy them for your own vehicle. Just don’t passively force them on me and others through regulation and legislation.

(6) Honda CRF450. These forks are decent for light and slow riders and work well on some tracks, but the forks ride low in their stroke, giving up the easy travel to sit on a harsh spot. The rigidity of the frame and stinkbug stance aren’t easy problems to solve. We slapped last year’s 2018 CRF450 Showa forks on our 2019 machine. This helped balance out the chassis and brought the forks up in the stroke so they weren’t riding in the harsh spot as much. Even though the forks are the same internally, Honda used a fork oil that has less stiction.
But what really adds value to the vehicle are the service receipts. When you buy a used car, it may run, drive, and sound great. But it’s hard to determine how long a vehicle and its many subsystems will last based on how it appears to operate today. What you need to know is how the vehicle has been treated over the long term.
Q: I own a 2012 Chevy Suburban with 71,000 miles that I have owned since new. Recently I went through a local car wash and when I came out the other side, my dash starting displaying “Service Traction Control” and “Service Stabilitrak” messages. After displaying these messages, it will then display “Traction Off” and “Stabilitrak Off.” The anti-lock braking system light also comes on when the engine is running. It doesn’t appear to have affected the engine in any way, nor has it affected the four-wheel-drive system. I’m thinking it’s some kind of sensor somewhere that somehow got wet in going through the car wash, but that is only speculation on my part. Any suggestions, ideas and/or solutions would be much appreciated.
Separately Tuesday, Harley said its U.S. motorcycle sales continued to fall in its most recent quarter, but overall profit jumped.
