JCB’s clean diesel programme has achieved 43% lower carbon emissions from its machines over the past seven years. It has mainly achieved this by improving fuel efficiency, with a resulting reduction in diesel consumption of 2.5 billion litres over that period. In February, Toyota announced that the new powertrains to be used in its two-litre engine vehicles would reduce carbon emissions by 18%. It plans to use the same powertrains in 80% of its models within five years.

Rival Ford has offered downsized turbocharged engines for years on its F-150 to improve fuel economy, but now Chevy is taking the concept even further. The standard engine on LT and RST trim levels is a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four, making the Silverado the only full-size truck available with a four-cylinder engine. The new engine also features cylinder deactivation, allowing it to shut off two cylinders under light loads to save fuel, and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Digital Trends drove it and walked away impressed.

It feels perky and powerful off the bottom and into the midrange, but in truth the 2019 KX450 makes less horsepower than the 2018 KX450 from idle to 9400 rpm. Then, above 9400 rpm, it takes off, which is why loyal KX450 riders like it so much. It revs. It pulls over the top, and it has quicker throttle response and lighter rev reaction than the old KX450. Cummins said it is offering a pre-certified system — what is commonly referred to as Scheme A approach — to remove additional certification complexity from the equation for the shipyard. The Scheme A approach means Cummins has worked directly with an IMO-recognized agency to perform witness and emissions tests before the system arrives at the shipyard. The design is proven in the test cell to meet the emissions requirements and the various design configurations are all pre-approved.

We had no problems making Intermediate and Pro riders happy; the trouble arose with Vet and light riders. They complained about harshness at the end of the stroke. We feel this is due to the more rigid frame, as it made us go softer to get the same plushness we had with the 2018 chassis. In response, we ran lower air pressures, as low as 133 psi (stock is 154 psi), with the compression clicker between 25 and 35 clicks out. If that didn’t fix the harshness, we removed 10cc of oil from the damping leg only.

However, all 2019 Colorado models feature a Rear Vision Camera (in either standard of high definition) as standard equipment, regardless of trim level.

Sometimes when the car was in park and the parking brake wasn’t used, the gear would slip into neutral and start rolling.

Pricing starts at $29,795 for the most basic Work Truck trim with a standard cab and long bed. But for the trucks people commonly buy, prices start at $36,095 for a double-cab Custom trim. Crew-cabs are the most popular models, and they start at $36,095 for Work Truck trim and range up to $46,895 for the high-feature LTZ trim. The LT Trail Boss trim we drove retails for $54,095 and the top-end High Country luxury model retails for $54,495, or as tested at $62,290 with the 6.2-liter engine.

Backup cameras fall somewhere in the middle gray zone, because while they do protect others, it’s only in situations where the driver is too stupid or in too much of a hurry to do the right thing, and it happens at slow speeds.
