According to Automotive Fleet, GM/ Chevy informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that there was Base radio default in their pickup trucks. The base radio gives off warnings if the key is left in the ignition or if seat belts aren’t clipped on properly. It also warns you if the doors are left open. Without the base radio working correctly it would cause the trucks not to be in compliance with motor vehicle safety standards. The alert can prevent needless injuries, and theft of the vehicle in case a driver or a passenger forgets. Pickup trucks affected are the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the 2005 Silverado HD. There were no deaths or injuries reported due to this defect but Chevy took it seriously and fixed it of no charge to the customers.
Then there’s this $971 service from 2005 that included replacing the steering box and drag link, and—alarmingly—mentions that the side gears in one of the differentials is “very loose,” but does not mention a repair. Here’s to hoping that’s the front axle, since it’s the one I’ll have to replace anyway due to the crash:

In addition to the two new engines, 4.3-liter V6 and 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s carry over from the previous-generation Silverado. The V6 is rated at 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque, while the 5.3-liter V8 is rated at 355 hp and 383 lb-ft. Both get six-speed automatic transmissions. The 6.2-liter V8 produces 420 hp and 460 lb-ft, and comes with a 10-speed automatic.

The wheel speed sensor wire has a body plug attached to it. This plug can be damaged if it’s not removed correctly. If the body plug is damaged, sensor replacement may be necessary, even though the sensor is functional in all other respects. When removing the body plug, rotate the plug into a position which allows the use of a small screwdriver to release the tabs on the underside of the body plug. These two tabs are at right angles (directly above and below) to the sensor wire.
Here are some key facts: 1) The major causes of vehicular collisions are: distracted driving, impaired driving, excess speed, disregarding road rules/signs/lights. All driver error. So therefore blameworthy and not an ‘accident’. 2) Despite an increase in collisions, death rates have decreased. The reason being government mandated ‘passive’ safety devices such as crumple zones, 3 point seatbelts, etc. Proof that government mandating improves safety. 3) It is accepted that the best way to survive a collision is to avoid it. And ‘active’ safety devices such as stability control have proven to reduce these collisions by allowing drivers to take more extreme action without rolling over. ABS has also proven effective by allowing less ‘practiced’ drivers to engage in emergency braking and still steer or stop faster than applying the ‘binders’. So again proven effective. 4) So if all of the above government mandated safety initiatives have proven themselves statistically reduce accidents, and save lives, then why are you arguing against them??????????
For vehicles in the range of 130 to 560kW, Phase V will require maximum NOx levels of 0.4g/kWh, down from 9.2g/kWh in Phase I. Similarly, maximum particulate levels have been cut from 0.54g/kWh to 0.015/kWh over the same period.
When General Motors recalled millions of its pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles back in 2016 for software glitches that could hinder the front airbags from deploying in a crash, the GMC Sierra Hybrid also featured on the lists of trucks that were recalled. This truck is identical to the Chevy Silverado and has significantly evolved over the years which included its engine – from 2005 to 2007 and 2009 to 2013 the truck’s 5.3-liter Vortec V-8 was paired to a mild hybrid system. This improvement boosted fuel economy but it later came to be a liability as the truck took on miles.
Yeah and I thought about obtaining an aftermarket one, however I’m not keeping it long enough to justify the cost/trouble of installing one. My wife has her first vehicle with a backup camera (purchased Dec 2016) and now hates driving any vehicle without one.
On a short and admittedly wimpy off-road section—the original location was unexpectedly graded smooth ahead of the trip—the AT4 barely broke a sweat, especially with the Traction Select System doing its thing. A suite of cameras showed the truck’s surroundings on the infotainment screen—very handy when you’ve nosed your way up a crest and can only see sky out the windshield, because the camera shows you what’s on the other side—including a birds-eye view for narrow trails.
As you can tell, a number of big, high-dollar items have been replaced on this Jeep over the years. From steering boxes to power steering pumps to exhaust manifolds, this XJ has been an expensive vehicle to maintain. But hopefully, this means these big-ticket items will last for many years to come.
