In the early 00’s I had a 1989 Cherokee with the Bendix 9 ABS system. That thing was a pile of garbage. Bendix decided to forego the typical vacuum brake booster and instead had the ABS module apply the brake assist. Imagine how an ABS system would age if it had to operate every time you applied the brakes instead of just every time a real ABS event was required. That’s exactly how this thing aged. Every 8-or-so key cycles I’d start it up and the ABS indicator would light, and I wouldn’t have brake assist. Lovely. I’d have to shut it down and start it again hoping the ABS would act properly that time.
While most countries are moving towards stricter standards on vehicle carbon emissions, the US could backtrack on its promises. President Donald Trump has announced that pollution limits due to be phased in between 2022 and 2025 and signed into law by his predecessor, Barack Obama, are to be watered down.
“Although this is new technology for some companies, Perkins has been using this technology in off -highway machines for many years. In fact, we have powered more than 500,000 machines running on construction sites, all fitted with this type of aftertreatment.”
Affected motorcycles were manufactured at Harley’s plant in Milwaukee, and the component manufacturer is listed as Brembo North America out of Plymouth, Michigan.
Though rear park assist isn’t the most glamorous of wanted options (such as a sunroof or push-button start), adding features from the ever-expanding GM active safety technology suite is welcome, even more so with the impending launch of the 2019 Ford Ranger and upcoming Jeep Scrambler.

A couple of months ago, I went through hell to get my hands on a 1991 Jeep Cherokee. It was a manual with vent windows, and it had very little rust, so I would have done almost anything to take ownership of that rare machine.
Of course, it’s worth mentioning that many Colorados have been through hard core off-roading without blowing their side curtain airbags, and that the incidents mentioned here likely only represent a tiny fraction of trucks on the road.
Fuel tank issues are not something that can be taken lightly. Chevy ran into an issue with fuel tanks with their 2011- 2015 line of Chevy Silverado 3500 and GMC Sierra 3500 pickup trucks. Both of these trucks came equipped with dual fuel tanks. According to GM Authority, there was an issue with the front fuel tank supprot, and the fuel-level sensor software was not working properly. This could lead to potential fires.
Automatic emergency braking worries me even if it doesn’t activate for no good reason. Suppose I’m driving in the outer lane with another vehicle in the next lane at least half a car length behind me. Another vehicle pulls out of a side road or parking place close enough to require action. Knowing that my blind spot is clear, I would abruptly change lanes to steer around it. (A good autonomous control system would make the same decision.) If my vehicle decides to activate emergency braking, I will have precipitated a rear end collision by the vehicle I just cut off. Depending on how hard my vehicle resists the lane change and how poorly its stability system maintains control, I may still run into the obstacle. What should have been an easy avoidance turns into a two or three vehicle wreck. This ain’t good.
Chevrolet was co-founded on Nov. 3, 1911, by William C. Durant and Louis Chevrolet in Flint, Michigan. Durant was a businessman and in the late 1800s he partnered and invested $2,000 in the Flint Road Cart Company, which eventually became the Durant-Dort Carriage Company. Durant turned it into a $2 million business in no time. By the early 1900s he owned the largest horse-drawn vehicle company in the United States. In 1904 Durant had also created the General Motors Company.
Rival Ford has offered downsized turbocharged engines for years on its F-150 to improve fuel economy, but now Chevy is taking the concept even further. The standard engine on LT and RST trim levels is a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four, making the Silverado the only full-size truck available with a four-cylinder engine. The new engine also features cylinder deactivation, allowing it to shut off two cylinders under light loads to save fuel, and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Digital Trends drove it and walked away impressed.
