This may be hard to believe, but honing survival skills and having powerful error-mitigation systems in operation are not only not mutually exclusive but are mutually reinforcing.
The voluntary safety recall includes all model-year 2017 and 2018 Touring, Trike and CVO Touring models, as well as some 2017 Softails.
I reached out to Matt over the phone to learn about what happened. He told me that he was at an off-road fundraiser for autism in Pottsville, Pennsylvania in his two-door 2011 Jeep Wrangler, when traffic started to slow. The group in front of him was having trouble traversing one of the most difficult obstacles on the relatively mild “advanced green” trail; particularly, the white Chevy ZR2 was struggling to find the right line up and over a rock.
The current ACU rollover-sensing calibration logic could allow for unintended rollover curtain air bag deployment in rare instances occurring under certain unique driving scenarios, usually involving unpaved roads or off-road where one side of the vehicle is higher than the other. The ACU reprogramming will improve rollover-sensing calibration to address these unique conditions and help prevent unintended rollover curtain air bag deployment, while maintaining the design intent for deployment in rollover crashes.
3) Most of the ‘state imposed’ safety requirements have proven to be effective. Crumple zones, 3 point safety belts, head restraints, ABS and stability control have all either served to reduce collisions or traffic fatalities. Thus again reducing societal costs. And history has proven that left on their own, that many (if not most) auto manufacturers would not have made these features standard equipment. Not to mention the ‘cheating’ that some manufacturers have been found to engage in regarding ‘crash tests’. So ending government safety mandates is not a long term cost savings. Again requiring these features is a utilitarian necessity/benefit.
There is also the fox and the grape aspect. If someone canât afford something they defensively denigrate it in order to feel better about themselves.
According to Chevrolet, the trucks that seem to be affected are in what’s known as the salt belt states. The salt belt states include New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Maryland, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Washington DC, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Maine, Minnesota, Vermont, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. This is where the roads are salted during winter months.
It’s difficult to offer a cost differential between a typical 700R4 and 4L60E overdrive transmission because there are so many variables that will directly affect the end game. The controllers alone vary from $650 to over $1,400. We priced comparable 700R4 and 4L60E transmissions from Hughes Performance for example, and the price difference on just the transmission was only $100 ($1,834 vs. $1,934 through Summit Racing), so based on that, the 4L60E could run an additional $1,000 to $1,200 more depending upon the component choices.
" Had complete brake failure. Was able to get the truck stopped. Saw it was 2 pints low on fluid. Added fluid, drove towards my auto shop, had to stop to fill the brake fluid again (the light went on this time). Did this a few times. Just before I got to the stop, the truck blew out some smoke, chugged, and the motor seized up. Towed the truck to the shop, they found out the master cylinder leaked and the vacuum lines sucked the brake fluid out of the master cylinder and dumped it into the cylinders in the motor and this blew my motor. I hear there is a recall for this on 2014 F-150S but not on the 2011. Terrible design. A brake problem should not blow up my motor." – Aug 11, 2018
But what is also not good is when auto companies fight recalls of parts other companies are recalling.https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2018/02/07/takata-airbag-recall-general-motors/316980002/ Posted by: frank in Florida | Sep 14, 2018 11:38:13 AM
Though rear park assist isn’t the most glamorous of wanted options (such as a sunroof or push-button start), adding features from the ever-expanding GM active safety technology suite is welcome, even more so with the impending launch of the 2019 Ford Ranger and upcoming Jeep Scrambler.
Q: With the engine idling, how long does it take to consume a gallon of gasoline? I’m asking because I wonder if shutting off the engine at stoplights actually saves anything or if it is simply hype.
