Without the base radio working correctly it would cause the trucks not to be in compliance with motor vehicle safety standards. The alert can prevent needless injuries, and theft of the vehicle in case a driver or a passenger forgets. Pickup trucks affected are the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the 2005 Silverado HD. There were no deaths or injuries reported due to this defect but Chevy took it seriously and fixed it of no charge to the customers.

Before dropping the new throttle bodies in place, the FiTech crew put the car up on the hoist and welded in a 14mm threaded bung that comes with the kit into the exhaust just downstream of the header collector. This adapter can be clamped in place with a gasket, but it’s better to permanently weld it and ensure there are no leaks.

It took longer distances stop which drivers did not expect at the time. Chevy blamed the problem on the salt states again for corrosion that occurred. Chevy blamed environmental conditions such as salt and road dirt for covering the sensor needed for the brakes to get the signal and work right.

Regardless of age, if it passes the safety certification requirements, then it is OK to be on the road.
