Yeah, if traction for stopping is bad enough that your concerned (or suddenly find yourself concerned) with ABS being a liability, there’s little you can do but stomp the pedal and hope for the best.
Then there’s this $971 service from 2005 that included replacing the steering box and drag link, and—alarmingly—mentions that the side gears in one of the differentials is “very loose,” but does not mention a repair. Here’s to hoping that’s the front axle, since it’s the one I’ll have to replace anyway due to the crash:
By acquiring Torqueedo, a manufacturer of electric drive marine motors, Deutz was able to cut five years out of the technology development needed to electrify their diesel engine powertrains.

The system may seem like yet another method of of taking control away from the driver but, it may actually be a savior for the manual transmission as it could take away the mundane tasks of clutching in and out while in stop and go traffic while making it somewhat future-proof by bringing it into the network of modules that can be centrally controlled by one of the cars computers.
2006-’09 Accord and Civic HybridsFront: Cartridge-type with encoded tone ringRear: Hub unitTips: The front knuckle should be removed for bearing replacement. Install the wheel bearing with the wheel sensor magnetic encoder toward the inside of the knuckle. The side with the ABS ring can be identified either by placing a lightweight metallic object (such as a paper clip) to the magnetic side or through a close visual inspection. The latter will reveal the ABS impulse ring windows, which can be seen through the seal surface. Remove any oil, grease, dust, metal debris and other foreign material from the encoder surface. Keep all magnetic tools away from the encoder surface. Be careful not to damage the encoder surface when you insert the wheel bearing.
“As for the demeaning: âGet these awful poor people and their cheap/old cars off the roads and away from my precious children!!!â post. In Ontario we have strict regulations regarding vehicle safety inspections and police officers regularly pull unsafe vehicles off the road. And for a very good reason, if your vehicle is unsafe, it is putting everyone else on the road in danger. Much like driving impaired.”

My Traverse tester was powered by a 3.6-liter V6 delivering 310 horsepower and 366 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a capable 9-speed automatic transmission that was easily in charge of the large SUV in every level of performance. Look for decent fuel economy ratings at 18/27 mpg for the V6. If you want turbo, a 2.0-L turbocharged 4-cylinder is also available (255 hp and 295 lb.-ft. torque).
The cost thing is spot on as well, and compounds my annoyance. These “features” that I don’t want or need in the first place are also prone to failure and cost a lot of money to fix.
GM has been heavily advertising this truck’s off-road capabilities, so it’s easy to understand why so many of the folks who have had to deal with airbags deploying off-road feel like they’ve been duped. If the truck is a real off-roader, it should be able to handle dirt trails without then having to head to the dealership for repair afterwards. And it shouldn’t require owners to remove a fuse.
